This fly pattern is a multi-purpose fly if you will. I use it when I see Blue Winged Olive's, Trico's, and other small mayflies hatching. Also, due to its slender body, it works well for a midge. When tying the midge I'll keep it on the small side. This fly has been a great Baetis-Midge pattern for me for a long time. Enjoy!
Im Gordon Vanderpool owner of Turning Stone Fly Fishing in Western North Carolina. This fly is called the "surveyor". Its a fly pattern made popular in competition fly fishing, and was developed by Lance Egan, member of The USA Mens Fly Fishing Team. The original pattern was a bit different then this one. This is my variation of it. Ive used it successfully all over the USA. Its a confidence fly pattern for me and sees a lot of time on the end of my line. This is also a very easy fly pattern to learn to tie!
