What Happens When You Fish Without a Guide?

Yes! The Great Smoky Mountains provide the ideal background for any outdoor activity. Our region's magnificent cool rivers and streams are teeming with beautiful trout. However, without expert guidance, you might end up spending all day in the water with little to show for it. Worse yet, it's possible to become lost in the Appalachian Mountains' immense forests.

Why Should I Go On a Fly Fishing Excursion in Bryson City?

The better question is, why aren’t you out here today? Bryson City has one of the best trout tailwaters in the area. We don’t say that lightly. The Tuckasegee River runs right through downtown. This is one of our favorite rivers on which to take beginners and experienced anglers. It is not uncommon for even beginners to snag upwards of 30 to 50 fish a day on the Tuck.

What else is there to do in Bryson City? Located on the edge of the Nantahala Gorge and just miles from Fontana Lake, there is more to do than you can possibly experience on a single trip. Premier mountain biking, incredible hiking, ziplining, whitewater rafting, and so much more await the adventurous family. Plus, there are so many restaurants right in downtown, including:

  • Nantahala Brewing Company
  • The Everett Street Diner
  • The Loose Moose
  • Mountain Layers Brewing Company
  • Appalachian Mercantile
  • POP-N-JACKS Gourmet Popcorn
  • CJ’s Grille
  • And many more

Oh, and let’s not forget the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad that becomes the Polar Express throughout the Christmas Season.

Don’t just take our word for it:
