Gordon is the head guide/owner of Turning Stones Fly Fishing, LLC!  He was raised in Southwestern, Pennsylvania where he fell in love with the trout streams of the Northeast.  Gordon found fly fishing in a unique way as a teenager.  One day him and a close friend were out fishing for smallmouth bass, and his buddy pulled out a fly rod from the truck and said,  “Try it Gordo, I cant figure it out!!”  Gordon grabbed the rod, tossed it in the current and gave the popping bug a twitch, and bam!!!  A 9 inch largemouth bass was on the end!  Needless to say, Gordon was hooked and the rest is history as they say!

He has since fly fished all over the world!  From Bonefish in Belize, to giant Brown Trout on the East Walker river in California and Nevada!  He has learned from some of the best anglers in the country along the way.  He settled here in Western North Carolina with his wonderful wife back in 2007, and started the fly fishing guide business right away.  Since then, Gordon has guided hundreds of people on the rivers here in the Great Smoky Mountains!  Gordon is an ASSISTANT COACH of the USA Youth Fly Fishing Team!!  These are anglers 18 years of age and under that have the desire and passion to be the best competitive fly fisherman they can be!  They are world champions I might add!!  Gordon also holds the position as a CCI, Certified Casting Instructor for the Federation Of Fly Fishers!

He is also a diehard Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan, enjoy’s spending time with family, and playing table tennis. He also likes to get out in the woods and hunt whenever he gets the chance.

Gordon is married to his wonderful wife, Suzanne and has 2 terrific dogs. They live in Otto, NC.

In 2008 I met Gordon through a mutual friend.  As passionate fly fisherman we began fishing together  weekly.  To say I was untrained was an understatement.  Gordon taught me how to cast, and how he approached the river.   It was during this time that I began guiding for Turning Stones Fly Fishing.  I recognized quickly that he was the best and that I wanted to be associated with anglers I looked up to.   I took hold and quickly began competing on the local circuit.  I dove in with both feet and made my way to Captain of the NC Fly Fishing Team in 2011.  From there I made Team USA Fly Fishing in Bend Oregon in 2012.  I then was asked to be the Coach of the US Youth Fly Fishing Team.  The US Team has been undefeated in team competition and has won two world championships in Italy and Ireland.  We placed 2nd in France with individual medals each year.  I took the casting foundation I learned from Gordon and achieved a goal of mine in 2013.  I am now an FFF Certified Master Casting Instuctor.  I look at every moment on the water as an opportunity to learn and love teaching new anglers about the sport I love.  The mountains of Western North Carolina has some of the best water in the world.  It has been instrumental in my success as a guide and an angler.

My name is Hunter Hoffler and I have been fly fishing for nearly 13 years.  My passion began in the mountains of Montana and Colorado during our family’s summer trips.  After some research, I was ecstatic to learn of the great opportunities that lie in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  I have now been fly fishing in WNC for about 7 years and have come to know most of its rivers and streams.  Having had the opportunity to fly fish around the world I can truly say that we have something special in these waters.
I have been lucky enough to get involved in the competition fly fishing scene in North Carolina. This has landed me the title of “Top Rod” on the two-time national champions, North Carolina Fly Fishing Team.  I then solidified my spot on team USA Youth and have been lucky enough to be a part of a Silver Medal team and the Captain of the Gold Medal winning team at the World Championships. I have also recently made the US Senior Team for 3 years in a row. I credit all of these accomplishments to the great waters in Western North Carolina. I hope to have the opportunity to show you some of these waters that I have come to know and love.
